Plot Summary for
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Kaun Banega Crorepati?" (2000) (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. Economy Aspect
The economic aspect shows in this movie is on the income level of the poor people and the situation which gangs have power in Mumbai City. This movie discovers the poverty of the people is in a worse condition. A young man, Jamal Malik, who want to improve his life have entered a TV game show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” and won 20 million rupees.
Social Aspect
The movie discovers some social issues that is racist, relationship between brothers and loving. Racist here can be proving by a scene where Hindu’s have attack and kill Muslim’s in Muslim area. Salim and Jamal mother had been killed in this tragedy. In this tragedy also they had found Latika. Three of them become orphan due to this tragedy. Relationship between brothers had shown between Salim and Jamal. Although Jamal had entered the biggest gangs in the city but he still love his only brother that is Jamal. This can be prove by Salim draws a gun and kills Maman in order to rescue Jamal. Loving can be prove by looking to Jamal Malik character which he are loyal to his true love, that is Latika. Although time have separate them, he always loyal and tried to found Latika.
Political Aspect
The only one political issue in this movie is the gap between rich people and poor people. This can be prove by looking to the Mumbai City environment where rich people are look down at the poor people. The TV’s game show show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” host also cannot believe poor people, that is Jamal Malik can answer question that hard to be answered. Another prove is when Salim, Jamal, and Latika was found by Maman, a gangster who tricks and then trains street children into becoming beggars.
